Extra shaving tips
+ If you have sensitive skin, you can purchase shaving gels and creams that are specially formulated for your skin type.
+ Make sure your blades are sharp. The speed at which a blade will dull depends on the toughness of your beard, the frequency of use, and the quality of your blade maintenance. Replace them when you can start to feel the blade pull at the hair before it cuts through. Dull blades can irritate your facial skin.
+ If you get the chance, spend a few bucks and get a shave from a professional barber. There's nothing like the feeling of a straight razor shave wielded by a man who knows how to work the steel.
+ If you wear cologne, make sure to use an unscented moisturizer or one that matches your cologne's scent. You don't want your aftershave to compete with your cologne.
+ If you want to save time, you can shave in the shower…and if you are real good, you can do it without a mirror. Just make sure you don't miss any spots.
+ If you nick yourself, use a styptic pencil to staunch the bleeding. It will sting a little, but the red flow should cease immediately. No styptic pencil? … use a small scrap of tissue. Just don't forget it's there or your co-workers will remind you.
Let it grow
If you like your hairy face, then all you may need is a trim. Whatever your style is, you can use these tips to get a neat look.
Have a plan. Make sure you have an idea of how you want your beard to look before you start trimming. Wet shave your face in the area you don't want your beard or mustache hair. The razor makes a nice clean edge for your beard and mustache.
You can then use a scissors or beard trimmer. Good electric trimmers will have a hair length setting. Always start with the longest setting and trim down until you have the desired length.
Don't forget to moisturize your face where you shaved. If you have dry skin, you can moisturize your face under your beard, too. Use a small amount of aftershave lotion on your finger tips and work it deep into your beard to your skin. Make sure to use just a small amount or you may gum up your beard. If you use too much, you can wipe off any extra lotion with a damp washcloth.
Final note: Don't forget to trim your nose and ear hair. Use a narrow manicure scissors or an electric trimmer designed for trimming nose and ear hair.
