You've got the cutest little…

…Baby face? … or not so much?  What do people usually see first when they look at you?  Your face.  And whether we like it or not - the outside reflects the inside.  Meaning…a healthy diet can equal healthy skin…especially on your face!  Bad facial skin can be due, in part, to bad eating habits.  So, throw out the fast food, stay away from those sugary soft drinks!  Reach for the goodness of life!

Some foods that are good for your face are:
  • Avocados - B-Complex vitamins and essential oils.  Got irritated red skin and blotchy skin?  Try avocados (niacin - an anti-inflammatory).  Avocados are also good for dry skin.  An avocado mask can do wonders for hydrating the skin.  Cleansers or bath/shower gels made with avocados, versus plain soap, are great for the skin.  Stick to fragrance free, non-detergent, neutral pH products as non-irritants.  Dry skin - avocado face mask/cleansing creams vs. soap/bath or shower gels with moisturizers/fragrance free, non-detergent, neutral -pH products. (Examples: Cetaphil, Aveeno, Neutrogena, Basis or Dove) or for a few great suggestions, click hereOr hey - eat some guacamole!  It is made with avocados.  It's great with baked corn chips on some nachos with salsa!! - (which by the way, is chocked full of good veggies for you to enjoy!  Just don't go overboard on the sour cream!)
  • Mangos - Niacin (vitamin B3), Vitamin A (maintains and repairs skin cells) Vitamin A is also an antioxidant. (Fights free radicals that can prematurely age the skin)
  • Almonds, walnuts, cashews and hazelnuts - Vitamin E (rich oils moisturize dry skin) and has antioxidants to protect against skin damage and premature aging of facial tissue.
  • Cottage Cheese - Selenium (mineral) teams with vitamin E to fight free radicals. Also good for fighting against all types skin cancer and fighting dandruff.
  • Acerola Cherries (also known as Barbados cherry or wild crape myrtle) - 100% of your daily allowance for vitamin C. (fights skin damage and wrinkles and produces collagen)
  • Oysters - rich in zinc (fights pimples) - a deficiency in zinc may contribute to acne.
  • Baked Potatoes (with skin) - 75% of daily copper need. Too little copper in your diet can reduce your skin's ability to heal and cause it to become rigid and lifeless.
  • Mushrooms - Riboflavin (vitamin B2) - improve skin blemishes, such as rosacea.
  • Flaxseed Oil - Omega 3 - hydrates the skin. Also helps in unclogging pores and dilute sebum levels (oil) that can lead to acne.
  • Wheat Germ - biotin (a B vitamin) - helps with dermatitis or itchy, scaly skin. Put it in your yogurt!
So there are some good food items and facial scrub ingredients to look for on your next trip to the grocery store and/or the skin care aisle!  Some other ideas to get back that cutest little baby face you were born with:
  • Don't smoke
  • Wear sunscreen
  • Moisturize daily with at least an SPF of 15
